Ms. Shafi, you have had a long career in Education. What gave you the impulse to found your own company? My aim of life is based on Jim Rohn’s quote “The way to enjoy life best is to wrap up one goal and start right on the next one.”

My passion towards the education field and working with students from all around the world motivated me to start my own educational institute.

Have you ever been tempted to turn back and choose a different specialization than education? No, Never. Education is such a vast field that no matter how much knowledge you have gained, it still seems as if there is a whole big ocean of knowledge ahead of you to explore. You can never have enough.

What has been the most rewarding moment of your career? The most rewarding moment of my career was establishing my own learning centre. Coming here everyday excites me, seeing hundreds of kids who we are able to assist academically is a feeling like no other. These students are the future of our country.

The teaching profession is very demanding mentally. How can one stay on top of things and not burn out? Its true that the teaching profession is very demanding and at times of the most stressful professionals because as an educator you suffer from stress at a higher than average rate.

That being said few significant things keep me away from burning out. First is my love towards my profession, secondly being efficiently organized and being able to share the workload with our team of educators. Finally the love of my students and their success keeps me going and going.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years businesswise? “The drive to close the gap between near perfect and perfect is the difference between the great and the unstoppable.” Tim Grover.

I want to be the unstoppable from this quote, the aim is to provide academic assistance to students all over. My goal in the next 5 years is to expand Shafi Education into a house hold name by establishing atleast 3 more centres within our city and then expanding further out going forward.

Shinetainment Will Not Only Shine Your Shoes, They Will Get You Leads!

I absolutely love your business idea. How did you come by it? I was introduced to the shoe shining industry as a young woman. I had lots of creative ideas that kept me up at night, so years later I decided to start my own business so I could do it my way and make my ideas come to life!

I wanted to add a little pizzazz to the event marketing & lead generation world. I wanted to give exhibitors, meeting planners and event planners a unique corporate entertainment marketing solution with a twist. So then…Shinetainment was born.

Was it difficult to establish yourself? As with anything, everything takes time. You have to pace yourself so you have room to learn and grow and get better.

I’ve never had unrealistic expectations with starting a new business. I just always put my best foot forward and make sure my clients are happy.

We have been taking our time to build relationships with our clients over the years and as a result we have established credibility. We have built our company slowly over the years and still do it with a shoe shine brush and a smile.

The idea of connecting marketing and leads with shoe shining is very fresh. Whose idea was it? Marketing & Collecting leads at events is something I can never take credit for because everyone has to do it. I just love to help businesses accomplish their goals and I found a way to make it fun for my clients and help them get a return on their investment at the same time!

Exhibiting at an event, convention or tradeshow is a big investment to exhibit a convention, trade show or event an its important for me to show my respect for them and help them get a return on their investment and have a captive audience and get quality interactive leads.

What is the most problematic part of your business? Meeting & Event planners don’t we are available to help them accomplish their goals. We want the world to know that we are not just a “shoe shine service” we are a lead generation and branding visibility service.

We help draw attention to your company, services or products so you can have a captive audience to build a relationship whether its business 2 Business,  business to consumer, or person to person.

We are here to help you accomplish you goal. Consider us an extension of your sales and marketing team we are your sales opener. We warm up your guests to hear your message so it easier for you to pitch and sale your products and services. Our main goal is to help you accomplish your event goals whether it’s just getting some attention on you brand or collecting leads we want you to have a successful event!

Where do you see your business in 5 years? We have lots of plans! We want to build more relationships with more brands, help more business, and offer more services to help our clients. We also plan to expand, grow and offer more for our clients and the community.

Ian Filippini is a travel writer based out of Santa Barbara where he is an active member of the business community.

Ian Filippini has recently launched a series of digital travel magazines focusing on his expertise in Santa Barbara as well as his travels around the world.

Ian, how does one become a travel writer? To get started, begin by reading. Read anything and everything. Reading every genre and style will give you the best insights into writing. It will also inform you of writers that have come before you.

Also, if you haven’t already done so, start a blog. It’s a great way to publish your writing. Then you can get the word out via social media.

The good thing about a blog is that you’ll have readership and who knows, you could even land a book deal or land a paid travel writing job. The possibilities are endless.

Your specialization is Santa Barbara, why this location? Santa Barbera is a diverse culture rich with great area sights, sounds and food. Once there you will instantly fall in love with everything it has to offer.

You will never run out of activities to soak yourself into. So if you find yourself running out of things to see, do or eat then travel writing may not be the career for you.

Have you got any golden nuggets to share with prospective travelers? My golden nugget would have to be the San Ysidro Ranch located in the foothills of Montecito.

The San Ysidro Ranch spands many acres of coastal scenery which includes many breathtaking views. If you love to hike then you’ll have many entry points to enjoy all of the Santa Barbera area trails.

The San Ysidro Ranch is also well known for Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh’s wedding. As well as John F. Kennedy and Jackie Onassis’s honeymoon location. The ranch truly mixes a rich history with modern accommodations.

What do you love and hate about being a travel expert? The best thing I love about being a travel writer is the near free or totally free travel perks. Trying new things and sharing my adventures.

I got to say that the traffic has to be the biggest negative if I travel by car. Not only can it be a total nightmare but if you know you are going to be driving in a known congested area and don’t give yourself enough time, your timetable could get all screwed up.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now? In 5 years? Wow, I’ve never been asked that question before. I would have to say i see myself still travel writing and soaking up the many sights and sounds that are offered.

Since i base myself in Santa Barbera, California i am positive that there are many new hidden gems that still await my eyes to see and experience.

Meet Emma, the Brain Behind the Cheaper Accountant

Emma Simpson is the founder of Cheaper Accountant that offers low-cost accounting services to small businesses across the UK.

Emma Simpson is an accountant and also a business woman. She founded the Cheaper Accountant, a company offering great value, low-cost accounting services to small businesses across the UK.

The Cheaper Accountant has grown to be a leader within the affordable accountancy service sector and offers an affordable alternative to those who want to pay less for their accounting work.

Emma, what prompted you to go into accounting? Is it not a male dominated field? I was always very comfortable with numbers and accounting came to me quite naturally.

During my younger days I discovered that I had a knack for balancing the books and for analysing numbers which gave me the confidence to pursue accounting as a career. This is what I’m best at and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

I guess the accountancy profession does have a male stereotype but there are actually plenty of women working in the industry and the gender balance has certainly improved in more recent years. I’ve worked with and been inspired by both my male and female colleagues and continue to see both groups well represented in the profession.

You have your own company. What was it like to found it? Things are going well now for the company and we work with a large number of small business clients across the UK but things haven’t always been this way.

It’s not easy starting out as a new business and it takes up a lot of your time and effort and you need to be 100% committed to make the business work. You’re very likely to face hurdles and set-backs but it’s how you respond to these that counts.

We’re still not always liked by others within the profession as we offer expert accounting services at vastly reduced fees. Our aim isn’t to drive down the profitability of accountants we are simply here to provide a better deal to small businesses who are not always in a position to pay large fees.

What has been your biggest achievement so far? I’m very proud of what has been achieved with Cheaper Accountant and the way in which the company continues to grow year-after-year.

Due to the fact that we provide an online accounting service I needed to turn my hand to online marketing and all of the different facets that influence a successful website. This didn’t come so naturally to me, as I am an accountant after all, but I have managed to gain a sufficient knowledge of these areas to really push the website and to drive growth in client numbers.

Today we are recognised as the leader in the low-cost accounting industry and we continue to strengthen our presence each and every month. It is all of this that I see as my biggest achievement.

What advice can you give someone who would like to become an accountant?
Be prepared to work hard and study hard. The professional accounting exams are not easy and it takes a lot of hard work and determination to get through them all, especially when working full time.

I would also advise those who are entering the profession to seek a mentor or someone similar who they can learn from. This will present the person with far greater benefits later in their career and especially if you have aspirations to move into management or higher.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years business wise? My current focus is growing Cheaper Accountant.

The brand has been around for a number of years now and we would like to ensure in the next 5 years that Cheaper Accountant is the number one choice for all small businesses across the UK. I see myself moving more into online marketing and working less on the numbers, even though the number is what I enjoy, to ensure that the company continues to grow.

My core principles are excellent and responsive customer service matched by instant online discoverability and it is this that I will be working on over the next five years.

Remso Rocks his Political Podcasts!

Remso W. Martinez host of the Remso Republic podcast, blogger, activist, and campaign consultant.

Remso W. Martinez is the host of the Remso Republic podcast, one of the fastest growing political podcasts online. His show discusses current events from a libertarian angle with a wide variety of guests ranging from politicians, comedians, bloggers, radio hosts, and activists.

Remso, you work in many roles. What was the first one? Blogger, activist or campaign consultant and which ones followed and why? I tend to juggle all three roles at once, but I started out as a blogger, then moved from writing to full on activism and campaigning since I wanted to turn my words into action.

It was a natural progression since timing met opportunity. I don’t have much patience for people who claim to have answers and a drive for change and do nothing about it.

You run your own popular podcast show. What does the preparation involve? Preparation for a season involves gathering a guest list with my producer Ryan. From there we take several weeks to set up recording dates, then finally get into the weeds of planning ahead for advertising and marketing to ensure the program grabs our audience’s attention and the eyes of potential listeners.

At that point it’s about satisfying the requirements of my sponsors, who are the lifeblood of the show, and what they need so we know how to market their product into the course of the season. Once the season starts things are a bit easier, all I need is a few minutes to do homework on my guest and our topic, grab a bottle of water and wait for them to call in and let the magic happen.

Can you please explain the libertarian angle of your show? The problem with libertarian media and content is that it is marketed strictly for hardcore libertarian audiences, and then some hosts wonder why their programs never pick up beyond their small base.

My show brings on people from all walks of life and worldviews, and what I try and do is discuss why open minds and open markets is the right solution to our problems, and from there try and find common ground and find the humanity in everyone. I don’t want to be remembered as another libertarian podcast, I want to be remembered as a great show with great conversations about the ideas of liberty.

What were the best and worst moments of your combined political activist career? Some would say losing is the worst moment in any activist or campaign staffers careers, but the worst moments were the ones where the team gave up when the chips were down. A campaign can lose even before the election day has started when the candidate and the team surrender mentally, those are by far the worst moments.

The best moments were the ones where you do something no one thought you could do and then you do it and succeed; I remember online money bombs people thought would fail, videos and commercials people never thought would turn out good, even just a huge volunteer event with a ton of moving pieces, it’s those moments where you rise above the challenge that show you your worth and potential to succeed in the future.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself happy! I’ve learned to take things step by step and allow God to move me in the path He sees fit.

A year ago I didn’t think I’d have a podcast, now I have a successful show support staff, I’m graduating from college, and the world looks fresh for the first time in my life. Being happy is the priority because that is what sustains the thirst to achieve more and keep life going forward.
